From One Mumma to Another - The Importance of Natural Skincare for Little Bodies

Becoming a mum meant I became hyper aware and attentive to what went onto and into my baby. One of the biggest things I became mindful of was what skincare products I was choosing for my family, and what hidden nasties they may have in them that have the potential to do harm.

After having my first baby, I realised that what we put onto our babies’ precious skin can have as big an impact on their health as what we feed them. Our skin is our biggest organ, and it absorbs much of what we put onto it topically.

I became hyper vigilant about checking the ingredients in the products I was using on my children and doing endless amounts of personal research in pursuit of the healthiest choices of products for my family. This was often an extremely frustrating and scary process because I do not feel like I should have to do research to find the safest product to use on my children- we should just be able to trust that manufacturers go by a do no harm policy. Sadly though, when I started to look into what is actually in a lot of popular, mainstream brands aimed at babies and children, I have been disheartened and shocked to find they often include obvious nasties like parabens and phthalates.

The pursuit for healthier product options has not always been easy, but thankfully OC Naturals are making it simpler to choose safer, natural products made specifically for children.

I have been a fan of Nature’s Organics for years now, being a dedicated user of their eco-friendly household cleaning products and laundry detergents. Having had such a positive experience with their household products, I was eager to try the OC Kids product range for my children too.

The OC Kids range has been designed with the gentlest, yet effective plant-derived ingredients to cleanse and nourish precious (and often sensitive) young skin. Using these products has given me peace of mind that they will do no harm for my children or the environment, and they absolutely love the cute designs of the packaging, and the gorgeous fruity scents.

We absolutely adore each product we have tried. They are gentle on their skin and hair, really do work at cleaning after even the toughest outdoor exploration adventures (if you know, you know), and they have never irritated my children’s skin or eyes. Read on below for our experience with each product:

3-in-1 Conditioning Shampoo and Body Washes

We have tried all three varieties of these conditioning shampoo and body washes- in Popcorn, Berry Bliss, and Fruit Blast. They are absolutely fabulous for simplifying bath and shower time for the kids, being able to use them on their hair, face, and body.

And the scents are so fun, fruity, and sweet. Each of my children has their favourite, and they have become a big motivation in getting them in the bath or shower at the end of the day. I love that each product has their own combination of natural key ingredients that are soothing and nourishing for young skin.

Ingredients like sunflower oil, shea butter, wheat germ oil, raspberry extract, and apple juice leave the kids with squeaky clean and soft skin and smelling so sweet! And they are gentle enough to use every day without drying out their little bodies or irritating skin.

Kids Bubble bath- with Chamomile and Shea Butter

This bubble bath is amazing! It has a gorgeous fruity scent, and I am so impressed with how far it goes- a little goes a long way to produce lots of fluffy bubbles. To be honest, over the years I have tried many natural bubble baths for the kids and have often been disappointed as there would be few bubbles, and they would often disappear within 5 minutes. But my youngest was delighted that this bubble bath produced so many fluffy white bubbles that lasted the entire bath.

It is also extra nourishing on their skin. My youngest has particularly sensitive skin, often breaking out in dry patches and mild eczema, so this just adds to my motivation to use only the gentlest children’s products. But this bubble bath has been fantastic for them from the first time we used it. Absolutely no dry patches or red skin in sight, even after the longest of playtime soaks.

Kids Berry Bliss Detangling Spray- with vitamin B5, Aloe Vera, and Nettle Extract

This has been a game changer for my little girl’s long, thick, wavy (aka: knotty) hair. Bed hair was a real deal for her before we started using this every morning to tame her mane. It has become a much less stressful part of the morning routine to have this gem to spray on any knots before brushing- it really does allow you to glide that brush right through and smooth out hair without fuss. And what I love is that I’m not worried about what potential chemicals are being sprayed onto her hair as with other brands on the market.

She also loves the novelty of having her own special “unicorn hair spray” to pamper herself with like a big girl. It smells delicious with a matching berry scent to her 3-in-1 Body Wash, Shampoo and Conditioner.

The OC Kids range has definitely become our go-to for natural skin care and hair care that we can trust.

I’ve been so impressed with each product we have used. OC Naturals really do make it easier for families to find and choose the healthiest option for their children, being easily accessible from major supermarkets, and at a fraction of the cost of other brands who specialise in non-toxic skincare and plant-based products.

There is nothing more you want as a mum than to be able to care for your children in a healthy, conscious, hassle-free, and fun way- and OC Kids ensures you can do all of this sustainably.
